Francisco J. Arcelus

FRANCISCO J. ARCELUS, Professor Emeritus, joined the Faculty in 1976. He formally retired in 2003 and was named an Honorary Research Professor. He received at Encaenia 2004 the rank of Professor Emeritus in Business Administration. Dr. Arcelus, since 2003, also has been Research Professor Ramon y Cajal, Departamento de Gestion de Empresas, Universidad Publica de Navarra Pamplona, Spain. He remains a very active researcher and a valued contributor to the Faculty's scholarly endeavours.

The citation, when his current rank was conferred, noted that Dr. Arcelus has "always set high standards for his students, his colleagues, and himself." He was instrumental in the development of the Quantitative Methods area, and today it remains a very strong group of scholars in terms of robustness and research application. In addition, he played a significant role in the development of the MBA and international programs. Dr. Arcelus has a consistent, high-quality research record that spans his entire career. He has nurtured and collaborated with a number of his colleagues, in addition to promoting interdisciplinary research with other faculties. He has also been a mentor to young scholars, another aspect of his career that is exemplary.

He has produced over 100 refereed journal articles or book chapters and he has presented papers in conferences throughout the world. His findings have appeared in numerous outlets including: the Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences, Economics Bulletin, the European Journal of Operational Research, the International Journal of Production Economics, the International Journal of Production and Quantitative Management, the International Journal of Systems Science, International Transactions in Operations Research, the Journal of Quality Technology, OMEGA, Production Planning and Control, the Strategic Management Journal, and Studies in Regional & Urban Planning.

Francisco has taught graduate and undergraduate seminars in Spanish and English, in Industrial Economics, Management Controls, Data Analysis, Operations Management, Management Science, Research Methodology and Information Systems. He is an Area Editor for the International Journal of Operations and Quantitative Management.

His current academic interests are in the areas of Productivity Analysis, Inventory Management, and Quality Control.
