UNB Fredericton’s Certificate in Applied Human Resources Certificate program helps prepare students for professional careers in human resources management.Certificate in Applied Human Resources Management (30 credit hours)

Students interested in starting a career, or advancing their current career, in the field of human resources management can gain theoretical applied knowledge in managing human resources by enrolling in the Certificate in Applied Human Resources Management program offered by the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of New Brunswick. This program is ideal for:

  • students who have graduated from degree programs other than business administration who would like to gain a specialization in human resources management
  • adult learners who are reluctant to enter a four-year university program, but want to acquire more human resources discipline-specific credentials
  • people who are already employed in human resources and have no university training, but would like to acquire the academic credentials to advance their career

 

This certificate program is available to both full-time and part-time students. Full-time students are able to complete the requirements in eight to 12 months.

Relevance

The Certificate in Applied Human Resources Management program is designed to provide broad theoretical and practical knowledge consistent with the competencies recognized by many HR professional associations and employers. Students planning to pursue additional professional certification will be encouraged to consult appropriate HR professional bodies and faculty advisors who can help ensure appropriate alignment of academic preparation and certification requirements. The aim of the program is to complement the professional and developmental goals of each individual.

The program curriculum mirrors the HR-related content of UNB Fredericton's BBA Honours in Human Resources Management. Certificate students who apply to and are accepted into the BBA program offered by the Faculty of Business Administration can take their credits with them.

Program Requirements

The Certificate in Applied Human Resources Management program requires the successful completion (with C or better) of ten term courses (30 credit hours), which includes 24 credit hours of the following required courses:

ADM1113 Administration

ADM2513 Organizational Behaviour

ADM2815 Human Resources Management

ADM3875 Labour Relations

ADM4815 Training and Development

ADM4825 Compensation Management

ADM4857 Human Resources Selection Systems

 

Plus nine credit hours of electives to be chosen from the following options:

ADM4526 Motivation and Work Behaviour

ADM4826 Employment Law

ADM4827 Workplace Health and Safety

ADM4828 Performance Management

ADM4835 Contemporary Issues in Human Resources Management

ADM4845 Human Resources Planning

ADM4856 International Human Resources Management

ADM4878 Negotiation and Dispute Resolution

ADM4895 Internship in Human Resources Management

ECON3724 Economics of Human Resources

 

Admission to the Program

Admission to this certificate program requires a minimum of either:

30 credit hours completed at a recognized post-secondary institution with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.7 (B-)

or

a minimum of two years relevant work experience in the human resources field, to be approved on an individual basis by the Dean in consultation with the Human Resources Management area group.
