Dean’s Message
Welcome to the Faculty of Business Administration home page. As one of Atlantic Canada’s oldest business faculties, we offer an array of programs that provide a balanced blend of theoretical and experiential knowledge. Classroom learning is augmented with hands-on experience that is facilitated through our successful partnerships with the business community and public sector.
So, what is our philosophy?
Our MBA and BBA are designed to provide breadth and depth of course work. As such, they will offer you a solid foundation in management skills. Upon completion, your degree may lead to the first job, a career upgrade or a promotion on the job. Regardless, you will come away with a clearer perspective and a more specific focus.
Whichever program you choose, I hope you take advantage of our unique experiential learning opportunities. For instance, as a student enrolled in the Student Investment Fund you could help manage a real fund worth over $5.6 million and follow the recommended study path to prepare for the Level One CFA exam.
Through the Activator program you could work with an entrepreneur or inventor to take a business from idea to launch and also complete a concentration in Entrepreneurship.
You may also choose to enroll in our Export Partnering Program and work with a New Brunswick business to prepare an export-marketing plan.
These are just some of our experiential offerings; there are also co-op and internship placement opportunities.
As you go through our programs you will gain skills, knowledge and thought leadership. Indeed, with a business degree you can make a difference and bring about positive change.
In the context of recent events like the global financial crisis there is cynicism about the role that business professionals play. It is in this context that your individual decision choices can and will make a difference.
- Think about the kind of business leader or professional you wish to be.
- How rooted will your decisions be to ethical principles and values?
- How embedded will social responsibility be in your decision making?
- What role will good governance and accountability play in the organization you create or choose to work in?
Our programs also stress a global perspective. Indeed, the coursework will prepare you to think globally even though you may have to act locally. Our faculty members come from at least 10 different countries and bring to the classroom their rich, diverse backgrounds and scholarly expertise. We also have a significant presence of international students. In this respect, our faculty is truly a multicultural community.
I wish you the very best in your academic endeavours and encourage you take advantage of all UNB and our business programs have to offer.
Dr. Devashis Mitra, Dean
