HR Professors Recognized for their Outstanding Research


Three professors in the faculty of business administration’s human resources area were recognized this year for their outstanding research. Dr. Doug Flint received the Faculty of Business Administration Excellence in Research Award for his research output from 2007 to 2012, while Lynn Haley and Jeff McNally each received the Faculty’s Annual Research Award for 2012.

Doug Flint (top), Lynn Haley (middle), and Jeff McNally(bottom), all members of the human resources area, received research awards.The Faculty of Business Administration Excellence in Research Award recognizes cumulative outstanding research output during the recent six-year period. Dr. Flint’s high level of research productivity has resulted in a steady stream of publications in peer-reviewed academic journals, including some with good impact factors, conference presentations and manuscripts in preparation for submission to journals.

Overall, Dr. Flint has 18 refereed journal publications of which 11 have appeared during the period under consideration. In several of these publications, he was lead author. These include co-authored articles in well-respected journals such as Personnel Review, Psychological Reports and Perceptual and Motor Skills, among others. His earlier co-authored work has appeared in such high impact journals as Human Resource Management and Journal of Managerial Psychology.

During the six-year period, Dr. Flint also has had eight papers presented at academic conferences. Three of these were at the Academy of Management Conference, the premiere academic conference in his discipline. Dr. Flint’s other scholarly accomplishments include service on the editorial advisory board of two journals.

The Faculty’s Annual Research Award for 2012 was presented to professor Lynn Haley, for her high level of research productivity that has resulted in five good quality, peer-reviewed academic journals, and manuscripts in preparation for submission to journals during this recent period.  

Professor Haley’s work as lead author on service quality in the non-profit sector appeared in Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, a reputed, high impact journal. Other notable publications during this period include co-authored articles in Personnel Review and Psychological Reports, among others.

The second Faculty Annual Research Award for 2012 was presented to Dr. Jeff McNally in recognition of his outstanding research output in the past year.

Dr. McNally’s high level of research productivity resulted in publications in five good-quality, peer-reviewed academic journals, and manuscripts in preparation for submission to journals during this recent period.  

Dr. McNally’s co-authored work on entrepreneurship education recently appeared in Journal of Business Venturing, a well-respected journal with a high impact factor. Other notable publications during this period include co-authored articles in Personnel Review and Psychological Reports, among others.

All three research awards were presented during the Faculty’s Encaenia Awards Reception on May 29. Commenting on the fact that the awards all went to professors in the HR area this year, Rob Austin, dean of the faculty, said, “this is a great testimony to the quality of research in this area, and to the collaboration and dedication of these professors.”
