Scott Preston joined Culture and Language Studies in 2010 after receiving his PhD in the Joint Program in Communication and Culture at York University/Ryerson University. Prior to that, he completed an M.A. in Film Studies at Concordia University in Montreal. His research and teaching interests include genre cinema and popular culture, Canadian film/television history and Canadian identity, media-religion-culture/post-secularism, history & theory of design, ludology & game studies. His current projects include research on New Brunswick media, culture and identity, and a manuscript on Canadian horror films.
Scott is the Director of the Media Arts & Cultures program, as well as the Advisor for the Interdepartmental Minor in Film Studies and the Certificate in Film Production. He is a long-standing member (and currently sits on the executive of) the Film Studies Association of Canada, is on the editorial board of Invisible Culture: An Electronic Journal of Visual Culture, and the board of directors of CHSR, Fredericton's community radio station.
