Hiring Someone?
The individual or department who hires someone on behalf of UNB is responsible for ensuring that:
- the person being hired qualifies to be paid as an independent contractor. See Appendix 2 of the Employee or Independent Contractor policy to determine eligibility. (In most cases, an individual hired to teach a credit course would be considered and employee not a contractor, and would have to be hired through Human Resources.
- an appropriate contract that includes a standard Provisions of Agreement is signed and in place before any work begins. A contract template can be found on the Contractors & Vendors webpage.
- proof of liability insurance is obtained from the contractor at the time of signing of the contract.
