JDI Roundtable on Manufacturing Competitiveness in New Brunswick Annual Forum

This day of presentations and panel discussions will be a gathering of manufacturers, government officials, academics and other stakeholders that will ignite conversation around this year’s three Roundtable research topics.

8:30 - 8:45 a.m. | Opening remarks

8:45 - 9:15 a.m. | New perspectives on New Brunswick manufacturing trends, determinants and what they mean for opportunities for growth of the sector and the economy by Herb Emery, Director of the Atlantic Institute for Public Policy (AIPR), Vaughan Chair in Regional Economics at UNB. 9:15 - 10 a.m. | Productivity trends and drivers in NB manufacturing sector by Andrew Sharpe, Executive Director, Centre for the Study of Living Standards. View Andrew Sharpe’s presentation.

10 - 10:30 a.m. | Break

10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. | Panel 1: Meeting skills and labour supply needs of manufacturers in the province and region. A brief presentation of AIPR research on this topic (including evidence of shortages, cyclical and longer-term drivers of labour market transformation and policy options for addressing the challenges) will be followed by a moderated panel discussion.
