Wabanaki Bachelor of Education

Wabanaki

A four-year program in elementary education specializing in Wabanaki languages, cultures and worldviews

Our Wabanaki Bachelor of Education is delivered to Wabanaki communities through the involvement of elders and other knowledge keepers, using land-based and place-based pedagogy as well as current online learning technologies. The program qualifies for New Brunswick Teacher Certification level IV.

It honours lived-experiences and current realities of students enrolled in the program who can complete it from home, with the exception of land-based gatherings.

Every year, practical school experiences are embedded within select courses.

Cohort model

Thirty students are enrolled in the program which is completed in four years, including the practicum.

Language certificates

Mi’kmaq or Wolastoqey language certificates are available within the degree, including:

  • Four language courses (Mi’kmaq or Wolastoqey)
  • One language methods course
  • Half of the practicum teaching language in a community school
