The Language Will Weave Us Together

A Wabanaki language gathering

Nov. 17 - 19, 2023
University of New Brunswick, unceded Ekpahak District

In Nov., the Mi’kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre will be hosting an inclusive Wabanaki language gathering where attendees will be invited to share and experience some of the powerful ways in which language can unify. It can be easy to feel disconnected or segregated from one another when we are learning in different styles and systems, but the language will weave us together.

Please join us on the UNB campus for an exciting event that will celebrate, encourage, and bring together the community members, educators, policy makers, scholars, advocates, students and aspiring speakers who are collectively doing the work all across this land of honouring, reclaiming and revitalizing Wabanaki language.

Special guests

  • Terrellynn Fearn, Co-Director of Turtle Island Institute
  • Dr. Kahente Horn-Miller, Assistant Vice-President of Indigenous Initiatives at Carleton University
  • Others to be announced

We are currently seeking sponsors who wish to support this event financially, along with partner organizations who might wish to join with us in this planning process. Please send an email to the MWC Research Associate at rachel.bryant@unb.ca to connect with the planning committee. The Chair of the planning committee is Elder Miigam’agan.
