While minor injuries and recordables are on the decrease, Serious Injuries and Fatality (SIF) events are still occurring today despite our best efforts to reduce risk in our workplaces.

There has been new research into defining SIF and Potential SIF events as well as what are needed to reduce the risk of these occurring.

This session will explore the history of SIFs as well as review the latest research and preventative measures to help you build your strategy to eliminate SIF events.

In this webinar, you will:

  • Learn what a Serious Injury and Fatality is;
  • Understand the history behind, and be able to describe, the importance of eliminating SIFs; and
  • Discover some tools to identify and eliminate SIF potential based on the latest research.

This webinar is for anyone who has an interest in preventing Serious Injuries and Fatalities at their workplace.

The corporate focus for many years has been on building safety systems that result in reduced total recordable injuries. This focus on Total Recordable Injury Frequency (TRIF) is in part driven by the desire to reduce the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) claims rate.

In spite of this focus, the workplace fatality rate in Canada remains a constant. Approximately 1,000 workplace fatalities are recorded each year, averaging nearly five deaths per working day. Our efforts are not helping to reduce the fatality rate.

In this webinar, you will:

  • Understand why TRIF is a lagging indicator that focuses on past injuries and may not accurately reflect the risk of serious or fatal incidents;
  • Learn the importance of using a proactive approach in SIF risk reduction that identifies and mitigates high-risk activities before they lead to severe outcomes;
  • Learn how implementing fatal hazard controls (critical controls), such as lockout/tagout procedures, confined space programs, and fall protection systems, is essential in preventing SIFs; and
  • Gain insight into the importance of fostering a safety culture that empowers workers to stop unsafe work and report hazards, thereby aiding in the reduction of SIF risks.

By shifting focus from merely reducing TRIF to actively managing SIF risks, organizations can create a safer work environment and significantly reduce the fatalities and disabling injuries.

This webinar is for anyone who has an interest in preventing Serious Injuries and Fatalities at their workplace.
