First published in 1947, the University of New Brunswick Law Journal/Revue de droit de l'Université du Nouveau-Brunswick is one of the oldest student-run legal publications in Canada and has a circulation of 1,100 copies.
The journal is an annual refereed publication devoted to the consideration of current legal issues, problems and philosophies through the presentation of articles, research notes, comments and reviews. It has a broad circulation with distribution including students and faculty, members of the Bar and law libraries worldwide. In addition, the journal is accessible through WestlawNext Canada, Quicklaw, and HeinOnline.
The University of New Brunswick Law Journal is published annually by upper-year students enrolled in the Faculty of Law. The editorial board changes on an annual basis with board members being appointed for the duration of one academic year. As a result, the journal is published once per year, often in the summer.
Manuscripts are accepted for review beginning in September, at which time the forum topic for the current volume of the journal is decided. Manuscripts that conform with the chosen forum topic will be given preference. Manuscripts can be written in either English or French and can be submitted electronically. While there are no preliminary restrictions as to manuscript length, the editorial board reserves the right to set such restrictions as a condition of publication.
To be accepted for publication, selected articles must proceed through a double-blind peer review process and receive positive evaluations. Please note that manuscripts submitted simultaneously to other journals will not be accepted.
Authors should consult the Canadian Guide to Uniform Legal Citation, 9th ed (Scarborough: Carswell, 2018) and a current issue of the journal as a guideline for formatting requirements.
Submission deadlines vary. Generally, there is a solicitation for submissions in the early Fall of each calendar year setting out deadlines for the current volume. However, we will accept submissions throughout the year for consideration in the next available publication.
Information on advertising, obtaining back issues or a subscription to the University of New Brunswick Law Journal may be obtained by contacting the editorial board at unblj@unb.ca. Please note that, as of 2017, the journal is no longer available for subscription through Carswell.
