Publishing your written work can be a wonderful, rewarding experience—or it can be a nightmare.

What is vanity publishing? How about a subsidiary publisher? Are they the same as independent publishers, or self-publishing? How does one make heads or tails of any of it?

Learn to navigate the minefield that is the publishing industry. Discussion topics include the different types of publishing, how to locate and identify suitable markets, key points to watch for in a publishing contract, and how to know when you're being scammed.

All this and more as we break down the business side of writing and make your publishing experience the enjoyable one it should be.

About the instructor

Joe Powers is a horror writer with a fondness for literary sleight-of-hand. He enjoys introducing the reader to flawed, believable characters and leading them on dark journeys with an unexpected twist. He has been a member of the Horror Writers’ Association, ArtsNB, the Writers' Federation of New Brunswick, the NB Authors Portal and the Short Fiction Writers' Guild, and is active in the local arts and writing communities. His work has appeared in various anthologies and collections worldwide. His debut novel is the western/horror crossover, Terror in High Water.
