This seminar can also be taken as part of our Management Development Program (MDP).

The purpose of the seminar is to help you put financial problems and issues into perspective and help you anticipate the financial consequences of your actions. The module will rely upon exercises and a case study to demonstrate the financial concepts.

Learning objectives

• The four financial statements and their relationship to each other
• External financing requirements
• The concept of sustainable growth
• How planning and budgeting fit into the overall strategy of the organization
• Best practices in budgeting and construct and analyze simple budgets

Instructor

Robert Penney graduated from Saint Thomas University with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Political Science and subsequently qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1993. Since then, Robert has held senior positions in both the public and private sector and is currently Chief Operating Officer of the New Brunswick Legal Aid Services Commission. Robert’s private sector background includes development of business strategy and performance measurement initiatives as well as overseeing compliance with securities commission and other legislation as Corporate Controller of a publicly traded real estate development company. In the public sector, Robert has led on-time on budget results in multiple departments, led comprehensive reform of legislation and negotiated the remediation of a major New Brunswick financial institution.
