This seminar is also offered as part of the Human Resources Management Program.

This seminar has been developed to provide you with knowledge of the legislative framework in which the management of human resources takes place. It is designed to familiarize you with the legal issues related to employee-employer relationships and how laws impact human resources management. You will also be introduced to laws and regulations regarding human rights, employment standards, occupational health and safety, pay equity, labour relations, diversity, and harassment.

Learning objectives

  • Become familiar with the fundamental employment laws which bind every employer and employee in NB
  • Minimize liability to their employer prior to the commencement of the employment relationship with an employee
  • Minimize liability to their employer throughout the employment relationship of the employee
  • Minimize liability on termination of the employment relationship of the employee
  • Become familiar with the fundamental components of the Employment Standards legislation

Instructor

Jessica Bungay is a Partner in the Fredericton office of Cox & Palmer, practicing in the areas of employment, labour, human rights, and administrative law. She is also the Chair of Cox & Palmer’s Regional Employment & Labour Group.

Adept at handling delicate situations, Jessica helps clients solve workplace issues, while also anticipating potential future issues and establishing a plan to mitigate risks. Whether it’s issues relating to day-to-day operations or complex litigation, with questions ranging from contractual obligations to discipline and termination, Jessica works with her clients to develop strategies to reach the best possible outcome.

Among a small number of lawyers in New Brunswick handling a variety of complex workplace legal matters, Jessica has extensive experience addressing issues in both unionized and non-unionized workplaces. Through understanding the legal issues and the business of her clients, Jessica is able to develop solutions that solve the problems they face.
