Graduate Studies and Open Entry Courses

The dates shown above apply to undergraduate programs and don’t necessarily apply to the School of Graduate Studies, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Education, Nursing AP, or to open entry courses offered through the College of Extended Learning. Consult the appropriate calendar for more information on how the revised academic calendar affects your program and courses.

FALL TERM 2024
Classes Start Wednesday, September 04, 2024 | End Friday, December 06, 2024 | 61 Teaching Days
SEPTEMBER Monday 02 Labour Day - University Holiday - no classes*
Wednesday 04 Start of classes for both Campuses (not including Law and the 11-month BEd.) Students are expected to arrive on campus by the first day of classes.
Friday 13 Last day for adding Fall Term and full-year courses. Fall term and full-year courses dropped up to and including this date not shown on academic transcript. After this date a notation of "W" (withdrawn no academic penalty) will be shown on the academic transcript.
Friday 13 Students may drop and add courses up to the last day to add for the term without being charged a prorated fee. Courses dropped after the last day to add classes will be subject to prorated tuition fees from the first week of classes up to the withdrawal date shown on the student academic record.
Monday 16 Last day for payment of University tuition and fees
Friday 20 Last day to opt-out of Student Union Health and Dental Plan for those students who entered in September.
Last day to be granted an exemption from the International Health Insurance Plan.
Monday 30 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - University Closed - no classes scheduled*
OCTOBER Monday 14 Thanksgiving Day - University Closed - no classes scheduled*
Friday 18
Last day to have a course marked as Extra to degree (not credited to the academic program and the grade is not included in the calculation of grade point averages). Such a notation must be requested by the mid-point of the term.
Friday 18 Last day to withdraw from Fall Term courses with prorated refund
Thursday 24 Convocation - UNB Fredericton
Friday 25 Fall Convocation - UNB Saint John
Tuesday 29 Last day to withdraw from Fall Term courses without academic penalty. A grade of "W" (withdrawn) will be shown on the academic record. After this date a grade of "WF" (withdrawn fail) will apply.
NOVEMBER Monday - Friday 11-15 Fall Term Reading Week - no classes or tests/assignments scheduled
Monday 11 Remembrance Day - University Closed - no classes scheduled*
Friday 22 Last day in Fall Term to hold class tests (no class tests to be held during the last 10 teaching days of the term)
DECEMBER Friday 06 Last day of Fall Term classes (61 teaching days)
Saturday 07 Reading Day - no classes or tests/assignments scheduled
Monday 09 Final examinations begin
Wednesday 18 Final examinations end (9 days)
Thursday 19 Residence closes for holiday break

Nursing students may need to participate in the preceptorships or clinical practicums during the Reading Weeks.

Students living in residence should contact their campus residence office for specific move-in dates.

*Except for essential services, most university offices will be closed on the dates indicated as "University Closed". Essential functions, for example, UNB Security & Traffic, Facilities Management and the Residences will be staffed and operational. Emergency maintenance may be arranged through the Security Department. A few departments and facilities such as the libraries and computer labs may offer some services on certain holidays. Those wishing to use such services on a holiday are advised to check with the specific department about operations for the day.

WINTER TERM 2025
Classes start Monday, January 06, 2025 | End Wednesday, April 09, 2025 | 62 Teaching Days

JANUARY Monday 06 Start of classes for both campuses. Students are expected to arrive on campus by the first day of classes.
Friday 17 Last day for adding Winter Term courses. Winter Term courses dropped up to and including this date not shown on academic transcript. After this date a notation of “W” (withdraw no academic penalty) will be shown on the academic transcript.

Last day to withdraw from full-year courses without academic penalty. A notation of “W” (withdrawn) will be shown on the academic transcript. After this date a notation of “WF” (withdraw fail) will apply.
Friday  17 Students may drop and add courses up to the last day to add for the term without being charged a prorated fee. Monday 20 Last day for payment of Winter term fees for new students. Last day for payment of University fees for full-time students paying by installments.

FEBRUARY Monday 17
NB Family Day - University Closed - no classes scheduled*
