About Sarah DeVarenne

Sarah DeVarenne

An experienced governance professional, Sarah DeVarenne has been at UNB for more than twenty years and has served as University Secretary since 2010. Prior to taking up the role of University Secretary Sarah served in a number of other administrative roles, including serving as Associate University Secretary on the Saint John campus and then on the Fredericton campus. Sarah was raised in Saint John and completed her degree in Chemistry at UNB.

As University Secretary, Sarah provides administrative oversight to the university’s governance functions, with responsibility for the University’s Board of Governors and its two academic Senates. She oversees the University’s records management function and institutional compliance with access and privacy legislation.

The University Secretary’s responsibilities also include service as Commissioner of Non-Academic Student Discipline for the Fredericton campus. Other administrative functions that fall within the University Secretariat include support for executive searches, oversight of policy development and review, publication of the Undergraduate Calendar, and support to the University’s Honorary Degrees and Professor Emeritus Committees.

The University Secretary provides advice on policy and procedure, search processes and matters of protocol.
