Sexuality Awareness Week 2013

Presented by the UNB Sexuality Centre, this year's Sexuality Awareness Week will run from February 11-15, 2013. The week features educational programming celebrating all aspects of sexuality. Check out some of this year's events!

All Week

Candy and Condoms - Stop by the Sexuality Centre (Student Union Buildng 3rd floor, Room 203) anytime during Sexuality Awareness Week to pick up your Valentine's Day treat bag, complete with free candy and condoms.

Sexual Health Scavenger Hunt - Keep your eyes peeled for posters around campus relating to sexual health. If you find all seven, Tweet the photographic evidence to the Sexuality Centre (@UNBSexuality) and you'll be entered in a prize draw.

It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's...Captain Condom! The Sexuality Centre's mascot may make a special appearance on campus. Get your picture taken with the Captain and you could win a place on our Sexuality Awareness Week Wall of Fame.

Monday, Feb. 11

Aliya-Jasmine Sovani: Sexuality and Relationships (7:30-9:00 PM, 105 McLaggan Hall) - Aliya-Jasmine is television host and segment producer. She was the original '1 girl' on the hit show, 1 Girl 5 Gays ("1g5g"), on Logo and MTV (Canada). Currently, she's hosting the rejuvenated and reenergized weekly series MTV NEWS. She brings her straight-shooting, youth-oriented perspective on sexuality and relationships to the grand opening of Sexuality Awareness Week. Tickets: $5 at the SU Welcome Centre. Presented by the Student Union.

Tuesday, Feb. 12

Not Your Grandma's Safe Sex Talk (5:00-6:30 PM, Student Union Building, Room 103) - This workshop by AIDS New Brunswick is "the talk" for the rest of us. Gay or straight, cis or trans, kinky or vanilla - there will be great information for everyone who cares about safe sex.

Technically Sex: What Technology Has to Do with Your Sex Life (7:30-9:00 PM, Alden Knowlan House) - Join a panel from the UNB Department of Psychology's Sexuality Research Group for a cold beer and a discussion about how technology and the Internet affect sexuality - from sex toys to online dating, and more. Presented by the Grad House. Must be 19+ to attend.

Wednesday, Feb. 13

Safe Spaces: Making the Campus Safer for LGBT Students (12:00-1:00 PM, Student Union Building, Room 103) - The UNB Safe Spaces Project is a student-led initiative that involves displaying stickers on doors, in offices, and in residence rooms across campus. These stickers declare that an area is a safe place to be open about one's sexual orientation or gender identity without fear of homophobia, transphobia, or harassment. Come find out how you can ensure UNB is a safe and welcoming place for all, and receive your sticker. Free lunch provided!

Games Night in Residence (5:00-6:30 PM) - Sexuality-themed games night and trivia contest for students living in residence. Pizza included! Check back  soon for more details, or ask your proctor.

Vagina Monologues (7:00-9:00 PM, 143 Marshall d'Avray Hall) - The University Women's Centre presents Eve Ensler's acclaimed series of monologues dealing with the feminine experience. Proceeds of this production go to support organizations striving to end violence against women. Tickets: $10 at the SU Welcome Centre.

Thursday, Feb. 14

Healthy Relationships (12:00-1:00 PM, CC Jones Building, Room 024)  Come and join Rosemary Whitlock, a UNB counsellor who loves to talk about relationships, as she introduces tips and techniques for making your relationship work better (including date ideas for couples in Fredericton). Open to all types of relationships. Free lunch provided!

Friday, Feb. 15

Vagina Monologues (7:00-9:00 PM, 143 Marshall d'Avray Hall) - Encore presentation.

Trivia Night @ the Social Club - Stop by the Social Club during Buckets and show off your sexuality knowledge. Prizes to be won!
