Career Workshops

The following workshops are offered on a continuing basis for students interested in going through the Career Planning Process.  Students must first meet with a career professional by booking a Career intake appointment at 453-4820.   The intake counsellor will refer you to the appropriate workshop to address your career needs.

Career Decision Making

When you hear the words: "It's time to make your career choice!" do you feel like sticking your head in the sand? If so, maybe you have pressures and beliefs about careers that make it very scary to make a career choice. You're not alone! Come join others in a workshop where we will address these fears and shed light on the career/life planning process.

Developing Self-Awareness: "What Can I Do and What Will Make Me Happy?"

Two key ingredients in making a career decision are your skills and work values. Often, these are overlooked and can result in a lack of satisfaction with your career decision. Through experiential activities, this workshop offers opportunities to reflect on the abilities you have and the things that are important to you in a job. Come join us and we'll have lots of fun!

Developing Self-Awareness: "Let's Talk About Interests"

Our interests shape our beliefs about what we enjoy doing and what we do well. Working at jobs you would rather not be doing or for which you lack interest is unnecessary. Knowing what you are interested in can help identify the career you will love. The Strong Interest Inventory (SII) takes about 30 minutes to complete online and once you have filled it out the feedback session described above will help you make sense of your results. Please note: You must leave at least a week between the date you fill out the inventory and the date of the feedback workshop.

Developing Self-Awareness: "What Does My Personality Have To Do With My Career?"

People who look forward to going to work, are energized by what they do and who enjoy and respect the people they work with are often working in an environment that suits their personality. There are an infinite number of variables in the workplace, and matching your unique characteristics and needs to these variables can be a daunting task. The first step, however, is knowing who you are and what you are like. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) takes about 30 minutes to complete online and once you have filled it out, the feedback session described above will help you make sense of your results. Please note: You must leave at least a week between the date you fill out the inventory and the date of the feedback workshop.

Career Information: Finding your Way Through the Maze

There are over 25,000 occupations out there, but where are they? This workshop is the key. You will be introduced to different ways of gathering career information and making sense of it. With a tour of the Career Resource Centre, you will learn to navigate your way through the maze of career information.
