Students on Exchange and/or Off Campus Study
Government Student Loan Recipients
- The Financial Services Office will contact students through UNB’s e-mail system to confirm when your loan arrives at the university (please be advised that some provinces send the loan document directly to the student).
- If the loan document arrives before you leave for your study abroad, please sign and complete all necessary procedures for processing.
- If your loan document does not arrive before you leave, please provide Ms. Maureen McCafferty, Financial Services with a complete mailing address and telephone number where you can be located during your exchange program. (Please note: any courier costs will be incurred at the students’ expense).
- Unless otherwise stated by Provincial regulations, all student loan documents must be processed by National Student Loan Service Centre (NSLSC).
NOTE
If you want another individual to obtain and process your student loan document on your behalf, you must complete a Power of Attorney prior to your departure abroad. The elected power of attorney must be in possession of these documents during the student loan negotiation process and must be able to show UNB’s Financial Services Office, National Student Loan Service Centre (NSLSC) upon request. Additionally, the elected power of attorney must have a copy of your SIN card, picture ID (examples of acceptable ID include: valid driver’s license; Canadian passport; provincial health card with a photo; or permanent residency or citizenship card) and provide them with a VOIDED cheque including branch, transit and account number.
Shelley Clayton, UNB's Director of Financial Aid, is a Commissioner of Oaths. If you need to contact her to obtain assistance in the completion of the Power of Attorney, please contact the Financial Aid Office at (506) 453-4796 to review processes and procedures.
