Data Description

Symphony is the library management system (LMS) used by the New Brunswick Public Libraries. It is a relational database that manages many of the automated ‘housekeeping’ tasks of the public libraries. It includes, among other functions: circulation (lending materials to patrons and receiving them back); acquisitions (ordering, receiving, and invoicing materials); cataloguing (classifying and indexing materials); serials (tracking magazine holdings); and the online catalogue (public user interface). The nickname Symphony derives from the software SirsiDynix Symphony that currently powers the LMS.
