Programs

Bridging Year

The Bridging Year has been offered at MMI since 1991. It is intended for students who require additional qualifications to enter UNB degree programs. Students follow an individually designed program of studies that helps them enter the undergraduate program they choose in Arts, Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, Forestry and Environmental Management, Kinesiology, Nursing, or Science.

The Bridging Year is a one-year program for First Nations students who want to attend university but need certain Grade 12 courses to qualify for admission. They take these along with first-year university credit courses. Students who complete the Bridging Year successfully are automatically admitted to their chosen degree, and their credit courses are advanced to the degree program.

UNB Degree Programs

The Bridging Year is designed to help prepare you for the admission to one of the following UNB faculties in your second year.

  • Arts (BA)
  • Science (BSc)
  • Business Administration (BBA)
  • Computer Science (BCS)
  • Education (BEd)
  • Engineering (BScE)
  • First Nation Business Administration Certificate (FNBAC)
  • Forestry (BScF)
  • Kinesiology (Physical Education) (BKin) (BRSS)
  • Nursing (BN)

Most programs require four years of study after the Bridging Year.

For admissions to faculties other than Arts or Education, backgrounds in specific courses in mathematics and science are essential—usually to the Graded 12 (academic) level.

Curriculum

Students in the Bridging Year enrol in four courses in each term.

Programs are individualized. The typical schedule will include one or two degree credit courses per term as well as non-credit courses in subjects in which additional background is needed.
