UNB by the numbers

  • Responsible for about 70 per cent of all publicly funded research in New Brunswick.
  • Since the turn of the century, UNB has managed 300 invention disclosures, and filed patent applications for 103 separate technologies. Eighty-eight patents have issued.
  • UNB, named Canada’s most entrepreneurial university by Startup Canada, has been responsible for more than 100 startups since 2010.
  • At UNB, we have an average of one full-time faculty member for every 15 students.
  • About one in every two students entering UNB directly out of high school received a scholarship last year.
  • More than $10.5 million in financial aid was available to our students in 2016-17.
  • In 2016-17, nearly $6 million in student aid came from donor funds – double that of eight years earlier.
  • Nearly 70 new student awards were created in 2016-17.
  • Within the last decade, more than 6,000 international students have graduated from UNB.
  • In the last decade, there have been 36,253 degrees conferred at all levels.
  • More than 3,200 people work with UNB, making it one of the largest employers in the province.
  • Recognized in the Globe and Mail as one of Canada’s Top 100 employers in 2017.
  • Named one of Atlantic Canada’s Top 50 employers in 2017 by Atlantic Business magazine.
  • Our budget for 2016-17 was more than $190 million.
