(a) Terms of Reference

The Research Policies and Procedures Committee is accountable to Senates, chaired by the Vice-President (Research), and functions to recommend, create, and revise policies and procedures concerning research-related matters.

The Committee's activities in support of this mandate may include:

  • Reviewing existing research-related policies and procedures to ensure consistency, relevance, and alignment with the University's mission, as well as with broader best practices, where appropriate and practicable;
  • Recommending revisions to existing research-related policies and procedures for consideration by Senates;
  • Recommending and creating new research-related policies and procedures for consideration by Senates;
  • Establishing focused sub-committees, working groups, or task forces, as appropriate, to provide additional expertise and/or representation relevant to the creation of new, or revision to existing, policies and procedures;
  • Evaluating reports and recommendations provided by such sub-committees, working groups, or task forces; and,
  • Reporting to Senates annually.

  • Executive Director, Office of Research Services (ORS)
  • One member of ORS staff chosen by the Vice-President (Research) (non-voting)
  • Dean of Graduate Studies or designate
  • One faculty member from the Fredericton campus appointed by the Senate on the recommendation of the Senate Nominating Committe
  • One faculty member from the Saint John campus appointed by the Senate on the recommendation of the Senate Nominating Committee
  • Three faculty members appointed by the Vice-President (Research), collectively having experience in research funded by the following granting councils: CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC
  • One graduate student appointed by the Graduate Student Association.
