Project FOCUS Glossary of Terms


This glossary will grow as Project FOCUS progresses.

Colleague: The enterprise resource planning software in use at UNB.

Datatel: The former name of Ellucian, the vendor which licenses Colleague. UNB purchased Colleague from Datatel in the 1990s and many at the university are familiar with the term; however, it refers only to the vendor (now Ellucian) and not software (then and now called Colleague).

Ellucian: The name of the vendor which licenses Colleague to UNB.

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) system: A category of business-management software an organization can use for the collection, management, storage and interpretation of data from a number of activities. These can include purchasing, reports, and service delivery.

General Ledger: The main accounting record of a company or organization. General Ledger (GL) accounts are used to store transaction records and the GL holds all account information that is needed to prepare financial statements. It includes accounts for assets, liabilities, revenues, expenses, and net assets.
