Neqotkuk Elder Advisory Program

Lead organization: Tobique First Nation, Neqotkuk Health Centre

Principle investigator(s): Deana Sappier

About the project:

The issue

Elders want their knowledge and experience reflected in policies and management in the community.

The importance

It is important that Elders have an increased role in governance and community planning, so their experience and needs can be reflected in programs offered in the community.

What makes this project different

Neqoktuk has created an Elder Advisory group which identified what currently exists in the community for Elders, what the gaps are and recommendations to leadership and administration going forward.

Anticipated impacts

Elders promote holistic approaches that increase individual and community wellness and cultural security in healthcare.  The participation of Elders benefits youth, families, the community, and Elders themselves.
