Installing the VPN Client

Once the client has been installed, you will no longer need to follow these instructions as the Junos Pulse client can be launched directly from your Applications folder.


  1. First, un-install the previous VPN client, Network Connect, if you have not already done so.
  2. Download the Pulse Secure VPN client from the ITS Download Free Software website.
  3. Navigate to the downloads folder using your Finder window, then double-click on ps-pulse-mac-9.0r2-b1151-installer.dmg.
  4. Right-click (or hold the Control key) on PulseSecure.pkg and choose ‘Open’.
  5. The Pulse Secure installer screen will appear, click ‘Continue’.

  6. Select ‘Install’.
  7. Enter your administrative password for the machine. If you are using a UNB-owned machine this will be your UNB password. Select ‘Install Software’.
  8. You may receive a warning message depending on your Mac's Security and Privacy settings. If so, follow the directions on screen to allow Pulse Secure to install successfully.
  9. If the install was successful you will receive the following message: 'The installation was successful'. Click ‘Close’.

  10. You will find Pulse Secure in your applications folder.
  11. Before you can begin using the VPN you must first setup your connection. Open Pulse Secure and click the plus (+) icon in the Connections window.

  12. Fill out UNB VPN in the Name field and type in in the Server field. Click ‘Add’.

  13. Click the black 'Connect' button in your Connections window.

  14. Enter your UNB login ID and password.

  15. Click ‘Connect’.
  16. When you are connected to the network via the VPN you will see "Connected" underneath UNB VPN in the Connections window.  Pulse Secure will remember your connection information for future sessions. To connect, simply click the 'Connect' button next to UNB VPN.

  17. To disconnect from the VPN, click the 'Disconnect' button in the connections window.

Running Junos Pulse after installation

Once the client has been installed it is no longer necessary to follow the above instructions each time you wish to connect to the VPN. Instead, simply do the following:

  1. Click the Pulse Secure icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen, then click 'Open Pulse Secure'.

  2. Click 'Connect' next to the UNB VPN connection.

    Click 'Connect'
  3. Enter your UNB Login ID and Password and click 'Connect'. You will then have a secure connection to the UNB network.

Uninstall Network Connect

  1. Open Network Connect in your Applications folder. (Finder > Applications)
  2. In the Apple bar, click on ‘Network Connect
    Select netowrk connect next to the apple icon and click uninstall network connect
  3. Select ‘Uninstall Network Connect
  4. Empty your trash bin
