Working Remotely

If you need to work off-campus due to weather, travel or illness:

Before you leave campus:

  • Verify your computer:
  • Provide your manager/dean/director/supervisor with a list of all devices and hardware you take home.

Already off-campus and unable to connect to the VPN?

  • Contact your Level 1 or email and provide a phone number where you can be reached. IT staff will contact you as soon as possible to assist.


Working from UNB-owned devices:

Working from personal devices:

Connect to UNB’s Virtual Private Network (VPN)

The VPN lets you securely access UNB IT services as if you were on campus. You must be connected to the VPN to access secure services like network files, Colleague, Informer and FootPrints from off campus.

  1. Download and install UNB's VPN client/app.
  2. When prompted, enter your UNB login ID and password.

Access your UNB email/calendar

You can access your UNB email and calendar from any web browser, on any device, through the Outlook Web App (OWA).

  1. Login to the myUNB Portal.
  2. Under 'UNB Email', click 'Go to my email and calendar'.

To access a shared mailbox through OWA:

  1. Click on your name in the top right hand corner of the OWA window.
  2. Select ‘Open another mailbox’.
  3. Enter the name of the shared mailbox and click ‘Open’.

Access your files

If you’re on a UNB-owned computer, connect to the VPN (see above) and you can access your H:/ and P:/ drives the same way you do on campus.

If you're using a personal (non-UNB) computer, MyFiles lets you access the files in your H:/ and P:/ drives from any web browser, on any device.

  1. Login to the myUNB Portal.
  2. From the Launch menu, select 'myFiles'.
  3. Log in with your UNB Login ID and Password.
  4. Once you’re logged in, you’ll have access to both your personal (H:/) drive and your departmental drive (labelled as 'departmental_drive' in the myFiles root menu).

Meet remotely through Teams

Microsoft Teams lets you chat, share files and have audio and video meetings with others from UNB or outside UNB.

Get MS Office for free

Faculty, staff and students have access to download the full MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) for free on up to five personal devices through your UNB O365 account.

Other specialized software: If you have a license for other specialized software (e.g. Adobe) and need to have it transferred onto another device, please contact your Level 1.

Access your VoIP telephone services

Access your voicemail

  1. Dial your UNB Number.
  2. Wait for the call to go to voicemail, then press the star (*) key.
  3. Enter your voicemail PIN.

Set your out-of-office greeting

  1. Go to your voicemail (see above).
  2. When prompted, enter your PIN.
  3. Say "Personal Options" or press 6 (if using touchtone interface).
  4. Press 2 for 'record greetings' then 2 again to record a greeting for when you're away.
  5. Follow the prompts to record a greeting:
    1. Press 1 to record your greeting
    2. Press # after finishing recording
    3. Press 1 to accept recording, 2 to re-record or 3 to delete and use the default Outlook Voice Access greeting
  6. Press * to return to the Personal Options menu.
  7. Press 1 to turn on the away greeting.
  8. After listening to your recording, press 1 to accept, 2 to re-record, or 3 to delete and use the default Outlook Voice Access greeting.
  9. Once your away message has been turned on, you will be prompted to turn on automatic email replies.
  10. Press 1 to turn on automatic out of office email replies or press * to decline and return to the Personal Options menu.

Setup call forwarding

Call forwarding is currently unavailable. ITS is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Note: Calls can only be forwarded to UNB Fredericton numbers or local numbers.

  1. Contact the IT Service Desk to have your calls fowarded to another phone.
