Effective Feb. 28, 2019, only Windows 10 and Office 2016 will be installed on all new and re-imaged UNB-owned Windows computers.

Why is this happening?

Microsoft announced they will stop supporting Windows 7 in January 2020.

What this means to you

New computer purchases:

All new Windows computers purchased through ITS procurement will have Windows 10 and Office 2016 installed by default.

If you use specialized software and have concerns about Windows 10 not meeting your needs, please contact your departmental Level 1 or the IT Service Desk and we’ll work with you to find an alternate solution.

Updating existing UNB-owned devices:

ITS will stop supporting existing Windows 7 computers at UNB in January 2020. To prepare for this, it is recommended you upgrade your existing UNB-owned computer to Windows 10 as soon as possible. To upgrade, please contact your departmental Level 1 or the IT Service Desk to submit your upgrade request. Note: this upgrade is a manual process and will require you to backup your files.

At this time, only those who submit a request through their Level 1 or the IT Service Desk will be upgraded.
