Status of bargaining with PSAC/PTSU

The University of New Brunswick, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), and Local 60551 or the Professional, Technical, Staff Union (PTSU), are pleased to announce they have signed a first collective agreement for the PTSU bargaining unit. The PTSU bargaining unit includes over 370 employees on both campuses who provide a broad range of services to students, faculty and other staff.

This new agreement contains provisions relating to job security, orientation sessions for new employees, no discrimination or harassment clause, grievance procedure, vacation, hours of work, holidays, and leaves with or without pay (including domestic violence leave and sexual violence leave), pension, protective equipment as well as many other provisions.  All parties are pleased to have reached a first collective agreement for the PTSU bargaining unit and look forward to continuing to work together.

The University of New Brunswick and PSAC Local 60551, which represents over 370 members who work for both campuses met on Friday, February 21 and reached a tentative agreement. These employees provide a broad range of services to students, faculty and other staff.

Both parties have been working toward this first collective agreement for close to six years.    

Union members will have an opportunity to decide whether they accept the tentative deal at an upcoming ratification vote. No details will be released until an agreement has been ratified.

The University and PSAC Local 60551 met on January 30 and 31 with the continued involvement of the provincially appointed Conciliator. During these sessions the Parties continued to make progress towards a first collective agreement. At this point in time there are 41 items that have been agreed and signed off while there are a further 8 items that have been signed off in part. The next scheduled conciliation sessions are February 18- 21. The University remains focused on achieving a mutually satisfactory collective agreement, as has been done with our other staff unions on both campuses.

The University and PSAC Local 60551 are engaged in bargaining for a first collective agreement covering members of the Professional and Technical Staff Union. At this point in time the parties are involved in Conciliation under the auspices of a provincially-appointed third-party who is assisting the two teams to achieve a mutually beneficial agreement. Since Fall 2019, significant progress has been made. Conciliation meetings will continue on January 30 and 31 and February 18-21. Please check back to this site for updates.
