Hiring Faculty

Easy to follow Flow Chart on Hiring Faculty  Follow these required steps for hiring a new Faculty Member:

1. Complete a Personnel Requisition for Faculty form and submit to the Vice President (Academic or Saint John).  An email notification will be sent notifying the outcome of the request.

2. The position is advertised.  The advertisement is sent to the Vice President (Academic or Saint John) for approval.  Please refer to the University's Employment Equity Policy and to the Faculty Recruitment Policy for further details.  It is recommended that the position be posted for a minimum of 30 days.  The ad should always include the following points:

  • The type of appointment (Tenure track, Term/length, Rank).
  • Ensure that the university is mentioned along with the faculty/department .
  • A full job description.

  • This position is subject to budgetary approval.

3.  Applications are submitted to the hiring Faculty/Department and the Dean/Chair is responsible for the interview process.

4.  When the successful candidate is chosen, a Dean's Recommendation for Full-Time Faculty Appointment form is completed and submitted to the Vice President's (Academic or Saint John) office.  

5.  Once approved, the Dean's Recommendation goes to Human Resources for contract preparation under the VP's (Academic or Saint John) signature. 

6.  The contract, collective agreement and payroll documents are sent to the candidate by the VP's (Academic or Saint John) office.

7.  Once returned from the candidate, the contract will be distributed to the appropriate areas.
