Salary Range:
$57,140.00 - $74,284.00 per annum

YOUR FOCUS:
- Provide brief wellness consultations to students, make referrals to appropriate resources when necessary, and offer ongoing coaching to students.
- Develop outreach activities and initiatives to promote positive mental health and wellness and to increase a sense of mattering and belonging.
- Identifying and creating programs and initiatives that will be sustainable over time through collaboration with the Law Faculty, student services, well established groups on campus, and community partnerships.
- Develop and deliver educational programs that promote all aspects of health and wellness as a professional value, including with respect to diet and exercise, time management, stress management, mindfulness, meditation, sleep, etc.
- Develop and deliver educational programs, brief counselling, and ongoing coaching to students with respect to coping strategies and habits to increase resiliency for the demands of legal education and practice.
- Promote an understanding of common mental and physical health challenges affecting law students, their impact, and treatment strategies.
- Develop and deliver substance abuse programs to raise the awareness among lawyers and law students of its dangers and treatment.
- Review and build content for website to host resources about wellness for law students.
- Collaborate with campus partners and stakeholders for support services available in the Faculty of Law, UNB, and the wider community. This will involve working with the Student Health Centre, Counselling Services, and other units responsible for student services at UNB.
- Supervise and assist the Student Peer Support Program within the Faculty of Law.
- Provide one-on-one coaching and brief counselling sessions for students and help them develop personalized wellness routines and strategies. Recognize when students may need further assistance (i.e., mental illness diagnosis, treatment, or crisis intervention) and refer them to appropriate resources on campus or in the community if appropriate.
- Help students navigate the process for obtaining disability accommodation, and work with the Student Accessibility Centre (SAC) and professors to develop and implement strategies to remove potential barriers.
- Raise awareness among professors and staff about the health and wellness issues facing law students. Assist and advise professors and staff wishing to integrate health and wellness considerations into existing courses and services.
- Ensure that health and wellness programing is available during critical periods in the law school calendar, including during 1L Orientation, recruitment periods, mid-terms, December exams, and April exams.
- Stay abreast of current developments and best practices in the field of student health, wellness, and success, and engage with like professionals at other law schools across Canada and around the world.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- A Master's degree in mental health related discipline such as social work, education, or psychology. A law degree or legal background is an asset.
- At least three years of professional experience in the field of community care, health, and wellness, ideally in the post-secondary education context.
Additional Strengths
- A background in relevant solutions-based approaches/strategies is an asset (e.g., building resilience/problem-solving capabilities, cognitive behavioural therapy, etc.).
- Knowledge of programs and services in a post-secondary institution, student mental health needs, best practices, and standards.
- Self-directed, takes initiative, and adaptable; able to work effectively in a team and independently, and in coordination with students, student groups, other student services, university faculty and staff, and stakeholders in addressing mental health and well-being.
- Knowledge of or experience working with law, graduate, or other professional program students is an asset.
- Ability/experience with maintaining strict confidentiality, and a demonstrated ability to act with high levels of integrity, discretion/judgment, and diplomacy as appropriate, particularly given the position of trust with respect to students.
- Knowledge/experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion practices, principles, initiatives, and applications is an asset (e.g., related to accessibility, cultural diversity, ethnicity, gender identity/expression, Indigeneity, sexual orientation, visible minorities, women, intersectionality, associated systemic experiences, effects, or issues, etc.).
- Ability/experience in developing and delivering educational material and resources.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to successfully perceive, navigate and respond appropriately to sensitive and confidential issues and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Excellent program management and coordination skills.
- Provide/authorize (when requested) a current Vulnerable Sector Check (which includes a Criminal Record Check) for review/assessment.
