one who knows how to advise others in a good way". This position is responsible for providing advisory and advocacy services to all Indigenous students as well as engaging in academic advising with Indigenous students in the Wocopsqoltine Weci Spiqiyahtuweq (WWS) Program.
- Organize and coordinate Wocopsqoltine Weci Spiqiyahtuweq Program (WWS) student applications, conduct student interviews, assess transcripts and references. Coordinate, organize and implement orientation events for WWS students.
- Provide academic advising for WWS students throughout the year regarding the program's expectations, requirements, regulations & policies while using Indigenous teachings that provide mental, emotional, spiritual & physical support.
- Conduct regular instructor meetings to enrich curriculum with Indigenous content and identify struggles ensuring proper resources and supports are put in place for students.
- Assist WWS students in locating and accessing student support services.
- Work with UNB faculty advisors to transition students who have successfully completed the WWS program into their faculty.
- Create and maintain a database of WWS student progress.
- Consult and collaborate with First Nation communities across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Quebec (Gaspé) and with UNB faculties to review the existing on-campus Wocopsqoltine Weci Spiqihahtuweq Program.
- Research and implement effective pedagogies and retention strategies within WWS courses and extracurricular activities.
- Develop and implement strategies for retention of Indigenous students through outreach and engagement.
- Liaison to all Indigenous students at UNB Fredericton for general academic consultation, resources, and advocacy.
- Coordinate, organize and oversee the annual UNB Spring Powwow.
- Supervise summer students and part-time students throughout the school year.
- Collaborate, assess and/or support in proposals submitted that aim to support the well-being and academic success of Indigenous students.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Undergraduate degree in a related field. Masters preferred.
- 3-5 years of related experience.

- Knowledge of UNB faculty programs, curricula, and professional competencies.
- Must be of Indigenous ancestry.
- Fluent speaker in one of the local First Nation Languages (Mi'kmaw/Wolastoq) would be an asset
