The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Library Assistant PL5 (Archives & Special Collections) with UNB Libraries. This is a continuing, full-time (36.25 hours per week) position with the SALAC employee group. The position is funded by the University Budget with a salary range of $22.02 - $26.05 per hour.
Under the supervision of the Manager of Archives & Special Collections (A&SC), this position is responsible for providing in-depth and on-site reference service to a wide variety of researchers which include local, national, and international, academic, and non-academic researchers. This position may also be responsible for Implementing processing plans for a variety of A&SC material.
Position Summary:
- Staff the Reference Desk for a minimum of 25 hours per week. Be on call for Microforms assistance as required.
- Respond to patron reference queries and assist researchers at the reference/information desk. Conduct reference interviews, identify relevant collections, and provide access to the collections as requested by the researcher.
- Research, analyze, and correlate data to answer complex research questions.
- Administer fee payments, where relevant and required.
- Provide training to patrons on the use of archives and related equipment, such as microfilm readers.
- List donations or transfers of material for any collection when required.
- Assist Manager, Faculty, and Head with donor relations and acquisitions where appropriateDevelop/populate the Archives' online catalogue (Archivera), including digitization of materials.
- Create, edit and digitize content for A&SC's online access portals (e.g.Wiki).
- Provide support for instruction and for visiting class groups and individuals when required.
- Assist Manager with moving and storage and Identify issues with storage and environment. Identify relevant material requiring conservation services in consultation with Archivist or Manager.
- Assist with hiring, training and supervision of staff and student employees.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements/Skills:
- University degree in a relevant field or archives, museum or library technical diploma is required. 2 years' experience in an academic setting. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of the functional areas of archival work and providing reference services to these records.
- Experience in providing reference services. digitization of archival records, common software packages (Word, Excel), data entry, and using catalogues and finding aids. Supervisory and administrative experience are preferred.
- Exceptional public service and time management skills. Ability to work in a team and independently.
- May be required to work evenings and weekends.
