The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Research Software Developer with the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBME). This is a full-time (36.25 hours per week), 18-month term position with a salary range of $58,740 - $76,360 per annum. A market differential may apply.
Reporting to the Associate Director, the Research Software Developer's (RSD) will work the IBME team to lead the research and development of software and AI products. This will include managing other software developers on a day-to-day basis, conducting independent research, planning weekly development sprints, and consulting and coordinating on strategic directions.
Position summary:
- Lead the research and development of software solutions for various IBME projects related to digital health, AI, rehabilitation, and biometrics.
- Make independent decisions about development approaches, areas of focus, and technical solutions, for the team in addition to their own role in software research and development.
- Manage the day-to-day activities of other staff software developers and co-op students where appropriate.
- Lead weekly software sprints. Plan sprint activities
- Work with stakeholders and staff to ensure that staff and students are strategically deployed according to project needs and timelines, and developer strengths and interests.
- Advise on program directions from a software and AI perspective and inform software design architectures, at a strategic planning level.
- Lead the development of project documentation, including design documents, research summaries, and dissemination materials.
- Create sufficiently detailed documentation and code management strategies to facilitate effective transitions between project personnel.
Requirements/Skills:
- MSc in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent. A PhD, or progress towards a PhD, considered a strong asset.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary research environment, with evidence of independent leadership of research/projects in health-related research areas.
- Prior experience with software development in digital health, human-computer interaction, and/or biomedical engineering (dealing with private data, human subjects, data visualization, etc.).
- Experience dealing with external stakeholders (e.g., industry partners, other labs, clinical partners).
- Ability to program in multiple languages (Python, Java/JavaScript, React/React Native, C, C++), and learn new languages as required.
- Experience with software development and full-stack web development (architecture and game design considered an asset).
- Experience with data analytics, data visualization, and/or machine learning.
