The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Career & Employment Advisor with the Career Development & Employment Centre (CDEC). This is a continuing, full-time (36.25 hours per week) position with a salary range of $39,499 -49,375 per annum.
The Career Development & Employment Centre provides career and employment advising and skills development to UNB/STU full- and part-time students, as well as Alumni. The role of the Career & Employment Advisor is to provide guidance and coaching through career exploration, career advising, employment readiness, and skills development.
Position summary:
- Provide career advising appointments to assist in the development of individualized career plans.
- Assist students in pursuit of a university career by establishing career plans during all stages of their academic life.
- Conduct interest, personality, and values identification using a variety of career instruments/assessments to clarify goals and potential career interests.
- Assist students in locating career information. Discuss strategies for exploring career options.
- Advise on employment and skills development in both individual appointments and group settings.
- Assist students in resume and cover letter preparation.
- Advise students on employment opportunities, upcoming campus and community recruitment events, internship programs, and government programs.
- Research, develop, and present workshops and in-class presentations related to career development, employment strategies and skills development. Assess the effectiveness of workshops and presentation delivery through client feedback questionnaires.
- Assist with special events such as job fairs, recruitment sessions, educational information sessions, etc., as required.
- Ensure the Resource Room contains current and relevant career, educational, and labour market information and resources. Assist users in locating resources.
- Develop resources for the website and student SharePoint. Ensure career-related information is accurate and up to date.
- Supervise work-study student in the delivery of CDEC campus outreach activities.
Requirements/Skills:
- An undergraduate degree, preferably in a social sciences field with course work in Career Development Theory, Counselling/Career Developing Process, and Counselling/Career Development Ethics. NB Career Development Practitioners Certification is also acceptable and considered an asset.
- Minimum of 2 years' work experience in career and employment advising. Combined experience with career/employment education may be considered.
- Previous experience working in a post-secondary environment an asset.
- Demonstrated understanding of career development theories/practices, post-secondary education programs, job search strategies, and familiarity with labour market trends.
- Excellent written/oral interpersonal communication skills. Detail-oriented and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Appreciation for value of different opinions, roles, experiences, cultures, and backgrounds.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs.
- Self-motivated and the ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
