The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Research Assistant with the Faculty of Law. This is a part-time (variable hours per week), term position ending June 30, 2022. The position is funded by external monies.
Funded through Health Canada, and in partnership with Reproductive Justice New Brunswick and Clinic 554, Drs. Jula Hughes and Tobin Haley are conducting research on barriers to procedural abortion in New Brunswick. This is a mixed-methods research project with a team of scholars, practitioners, and community members from across the province.
The research assistant will support the work of Drs. Hughes, Haley, Taylor, and Pearlston on the Clinic 554: Abortion Access in New Brunswick Project.
Position summary:
- Support grant administration.
- Prepare drafts of interim and final reports and peer reviewed articles.
- Create summaries of learning from stakeholder meetings.
- Code qualitative research data, such as interview transcripts and other materials.
- Archive and conduct historical research.
- Present at conferences and community presentations.
- Participate in knowledge dissemination activities (e.g., website creation).
- Attend stakeholder advisory meetings.
- Support the administrative work of the project. Schedule and aid in interview and focus groups and manage ethics.
- Support recruitment, access assessment, and access needs.
- Support translation.
- Other duties as required.
Requirements/Skills:
- A Bachelor's degree in the social sciences, nursing, social work, or a cognate discipline OR be close to completion with previous research experience.
- 1-2 years' experience in qualitative research analysis.
- Proficiency in NVivo, previous experience with coding data, or working with archival materials.
- Strong academic writing skills.
- Familiarity with the principles of community-engaged research.
- Ability to work with stakeholders across the private, non-profit, and governmental sectors.
- Proficiency in French an asset.
