The University of New Brunswick Saint John welcomes applications for the position of Community Outreach Coordinator with Urban and Community Studies Institute. This is a 11-month term, full-time (36.25 hours per week) position with the APT employee group. The position is funded by external monies with a salary range of $44,556 - $55,695 per annum.
The Urban and Community Studies Institute (UCSI) is an interfaculty institute. Its mission is to understand and contribute to community growth and public policy development in New Brunswick, particularly around poverty reduction and community well-being and prosperity. These programs include Profs2Classes, the "Open University" program, and the Collaborative Research Portfolio. This position is responsible for both management of these programs and providing evaluative reports.
Position summary:
- Recruit faculty volunteers.
- Collaborate with the faculty to develop a slate of topics and presentations, from which teachers can choose and coordinate with the school district office to arrange school visits.
- Promote programs to teachers, and gather feedback from students, teachers, and faculty.
- Manage programs and provide evaluative reports.
- Consult with faculty, university staff in student services and UCSl's partners in community organizations to develop an appealing program of sessions for the "Open University" program.
- Organize UCSI sessions, coordinate with UNB Marketing to promote them, oversee delivery of each session, and evaluate the program in collaboration with a UCSI Fellow.
- Work with UCSI Fellows and UCSI research assistants, help plan, implement, evaluate collaborative research projects.
- Manage the reporting requirements on externally funded projects.
- Keep track of three programs, maintain key statistics like dates and attendance, and develop a report for Post-Secondary Education Training and Labour.
Requirements/Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in social sciences, education, community development, or a related field and two (2) years' relevant work experience. A master's degree in the social sciences, education, community development, or a related field and evidence of relevant work experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in the Saint John Community is a definite asset.
- Experience with project planning and implementation.
- Experience in educational program development or teaching (at the K-12 or post-secondary level, or with adult learners) or knowledge of and work experience in community development. experience in both fields (education and community development) is an asset.
- Organizational skills, the ability to work independently and to manage deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of partners.
- Project management and time management skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
