The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Roofer with Capital Planning & Operations. This is a continuing, full-time (40 hours per week) position with the GLTA employee group. The position is funded by the University Budget with a salary range of $23.77 per hour.
This is a skilled maintenance and construction position, working in the roofing trade at the journeyman level with carpentry experience under direction from the Carpentry Shop Foreperson or alternate.
Position summary:
- Work alone or as a member of a crew employed on maintenance and construction.
- Work will vary depending on the task and will normally be out of doors under varying conditions.
- Work at heights from ladders or scaffolding may be required.
- Prepare job estimates as to the labour and materials required to complete the job, as needed.
- Allocate and supervise the work of trades helpers and/or labourers.
- Perform elementary duties of another trade to expedite completion of the assigned task, as needed.
- Assist in or undertake minor carpentry tasks, as needed.
- Apply safety precautions as may be required to ensure minimal hazards to self and others.
- Care and preserve assigned tools and equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements/Skills:
- Formal basic education as required by the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour to meet the Journeyman Standard in the Roofing trade.
- Three (3) years or more diversified experience at the journeyman level in the Commercial Roofing trade with concentration on roof maintenance.
- May consider an unlicensed roofer with five (5) years or more diversified experience in the Commercial Roofing trade with concentration on roof maintenance. Unlicensed trades are paid at 90% of the journeyperson rate.
- Knowledge of all applicable codes, environmental regulations and Worksafe NB requirements that may affect the Roofing Trade.
- The ability to read and interpret plans and specifications and to be able to work from sketches and diagrams.
- Proven ability to work with other trades people and the versatility in handling and using tools of the trade.
- Must have the physical capacity to carry out the functions of the position, including the ability to lift heavy objects, work from ladders, at heights or in cramped quarters.
