The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Industrial Mechanic with Capital Planning & Operations. This is a continuing, full-time (40 hours per week) position with the GLTA employee group. The position is funded by the University Budget with a salary of $27.27 per hour.
This is skilled maintenance and construction work in the industrial mechanic trade at the Journeyman level.

Position summary:
- Work as a mechanic on building mechanical equipment, including: compressors, fans, diesel or gasoline generator sets, air handling equipment and cafeteria/kitchen equipment. The nature of the work will vary depending on the task, and may be in or out of doors under varying conditions. The work will often be done in association with other trades in and around moving and electrical equipment.
- Weld materials not associated with pressure vessels.
- Work on various Physical Plant mechanical equipment.
- Prepare job estimates as to the nature and quantity of materials and labour required.
- Supervise the work of Trades Helpers and/or Labourers.
- Perform elementary duties of another trade in order to expedite an assigned task.
- Responsible for the application for safety precautions as may be required to ensure minimum hazard to self and others.
- Care and preservation of assigned tools and equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements/Skills:
- Formal basic education as required by the New Brunswick Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour to meet Journeyman standards for the Industrial Mechanic Trade.
- Must possess valid, current licenses to practice the Industrial Mechanic Trade.
- At least three years' experience at the Journeyman level in the Industrial Mechanic Trade with concentration on maintenance projects.
- Must be thoroughly familiar with the National Building Code and the New Brunswick Health and Safety Act as they apply to the Industrial Mechanic Trade.
- The ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, sketches and diagrams.
- Must have the physical capacity to carry out the functions of the trade including the ability, on occasion, to lift heavy objects, and work from ladders or in cramped quarters and often dirty quarters.
