The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Geomatics IT and Level 1 Support with Geodesy & Geomatics Engineering. This is a one-year term with the possibility of extension, full-time (36.25 hours per week) position with a salary range of $47,688 - $61,996 per annum.
The Department of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering (GGE) carries out leading research in the area of Geodesy and Geomatics, delivers courses leading to degrees, and provides service to the profession, the University, and the wider community. The primary function of this position is to provide faculty, students and staff IT support.
Position summary:
- Support teaching assistants with use of geomatics software and hardware.
- Coordinate seminars and coding workshops for students on new software and languages.
- Assist with data collection in lab exercises and provide support in courses.
- Provide support in use of research equipment, programming, and fieldwork.
- Help maintain the GGE website and the digital display installed in the corridor.
- Maintain and track hardware and technical software licenses; apply software updates.
- Help graduate and undergraduate students with their coding problems.
- Assist faculty members with software and coding in relevant labs of graduate and undergrad courses.
- Keep skills updated by taking part in certifications (training) offered online.
- Provide supervisory support regarding software development to faculty and research students.
- Assist in the purchase, set up, and maintenance of UNB and non-UNB maintained computers.
- Stay current with IT requirements in the department.
- Ensure a backup system is maintained, and recover any data lost.
- Maintain servers for College of Extended Learning courses.
- Setup new computer equipment purchased, and install new software required by members of the department.
- Maintain the photocopier and computer printers, and arranges for repair if needed by ITS or an external company.
- Provide support for virtual learning. Perform other duties as required.
Requirements/Skills:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in computer science, geomatics, or related technical field.
- 3-5 years of experience working in computer science/ geomatics/or working with related tasks.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Competent at programming using modern languages (e.g., C++, Python). Familiarity with both PC and Mac.
- Ability to resolve Level 1 hardware issues.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt as technology changes.
- Must be detailed oriented with strong organizational, time-management, analytical, written, and verbal skills.
- Experience in presenting material to a group.
- Able to write funding proposals including EPF submissions.
- Willingness to assist others. Strong interpersonal skills.
