The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Accommodations Facilitator with the Student Accessibility Centre (SAC). This is a 10-month renewable term (from August to June each year), full-time (36.25 hours per week) position with a salary range of $40,386 - $50,482 per annum.
The Accommodations Facilitator is responsible for providing a range of services to students with documented disabilities. Through individual consultation, support, and advocacy, the AF ensures that registered students are provided with the academic accommodations and services they need to pursue their academic goals.
Position summary:
- Conduct intake interviews for students with documented disabilities. Collect, review and assess confidential medical/psychological data and implement, evaluate, and modify accommodation plans where appropriate.
- Maintain on-going contact with students to monitor their progress and effectiveness of accommodations and supports. Make referrals to internal and external services as needed.
- Work with students identified as needing support for evidence-based learning strategies instruction and coaching including planning, organizing, & delivering individual & group learning strategy sessions.
- Develop learning resources and materials aimed at helping students become more efficient learners.
- Meet with and advise prospective students about available services for students with disabilities.
- Educate, promote, and facilitate open communication and discussion with faculty members, and/or appropriate university services on behalf of students with disabilities in accordance with NB Human Rights Legislation and UNB policies and regulations.
- Facilitate accommodation arrangements and referrals for: e-text arrangements, note-taking, assistive technology supports for students who register with SAC.
- Support the application process for students applying for the Canada Student Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities.
- Create/maintain/update confidential client files.
- Assist the Test & Exam Coordinator with all aspects of the provision of accommodated tests and exams supports.
- Assist with all primary functions of the Student Accessibility Centre, reception duties, and other duties, as needed.
Requirements/Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Exceptional Learners, Social Sciences, or related field. Minimum of 2 years related experience, preferably in a post-secondary setting.
- Knowledge of a broad range of disabilities including, but not limited to: Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, mental health conditions, chronic health conditions, and neurological disorders and the subsequent implications for students pursuing an academic program.
- A high level of accountability and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
- Excellent judgment, decision-making and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
- Working knowledge of psycho-educational assessments and other academic assessment tools and the ability to implement recommendations from such reports/tools.
- Familiarity with academic accommodations, learning strategies, and assistive technology for a broad range of persons with disabilities. Strong understanding of NB Human Rights Legislation.
