The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Cyber Security Analyst with Information Technology Services (ITS). This is a 3-year term, full-time (36.25 hours per week) position with a salary range of $54,067 - $70,285 per annum. A market differential may apply.
Reporting to the Manager, Technology Operations, the Cyber Security Analyst advances prevention of and response to cyber security incidents across the Educational Computer Network (ECN) by working closely with staff at partner institutions on incident and vulnerability prevention, monitoring, detection and response.
Position summary:
- Maintain up-to-date detailed knowledge of the IT security industry including awareness of new or revised security solutions, improved security processes and the development of new attacks and threat vectors.
- Participate in the establishment of and continuously improve baselines for detecting anomalies and events across the ECN.
- Participate in and continuously improve the implementation of monitoring tools at member institutions.
- Participate in prevention and detection of cyber incidents, vulnerabilities and anomalous events and continuously improve associated processes.
- Continuously improve cyber incident and vulnerability response and support recovery activities at member institutions.
- Continuously improve the containment and mitigation of incidents and vulnerabilities including participating Critical Incident Response teams.
- Use interpersonal skills that contribute to successful personal and team performance.
- Participate in project teams as an effective team member and complete independent projects successfully.
Requirements/Skills:
- A Bachelor's degree in Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related area.
- 5 years progressive working experience in security, systems, end point and/or network analysis.
- Working knowledge in various technologies such as: access management, vulnerability monitoring, Operating Systems, Encryption, Change Control, Incident Response, Cloud Security, Disaster Recovery, and Security Policies.
- Excellent client engagement/management skills with the ability to influence management and build credibility across the organization.
- Written/verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Flexibility in working hours including participation in occasional scheduled on-call after hours support, time shifting and participation in after-hours emergency response.
- Ability to prioritize work, apply standards and meet deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to changes in work environment.
- Adapts easily to and welcomes technology changes and exercises initiative to learn new technologies.
