The University of New Brunswick Saint John welcomes applications for the position of Genomics Technician 1 PL3 with the Department of Biological Sciences. This is a full-time (36.25 hours per week), term position ending January 3, 2022. The position is funded by external monies with a salary range of $17.09 - 21.38 per hour.
Applicant will provide technical support for an Ecological Genomics Laboratory. The lab is part of a Canada Research Chair in Aquatic Molecular Ecology and Ecological Genomics. The lab is using next generation sequencing to understand how genes, genomes, and populations respond to different ecological contexts in nature. The lab also analyses Environmental DNA (eDNA) with both qPCR and metabarcoding. The technician will support research projects related to environmental conservation. The technician will be supervised directly by the Genomics Laboratory Manager.
- Extract DNA.
- Perform polymerase chain reaction, qPCR, and eDNA filtration.
- Create next generation sequencing libraries.
- Analyze data, interpret results, and field sampling.
- BSc in Biology or related discipline.
- Ability to work on a team and independently.
- Organized with strong attention to detail.
- Must have a strong work ethic.
