The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Research Engineer with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This is a term full-time (36.25 hours per week) position, with and end date of July 4, 2022, with the PTSU employee group. The position is funded by external monies with a salary range of $50,357 - $65,463 per annum.
The Emera & NB Power Research Centre for Smart Grid Technologies is a research unit within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The Research Engineer works closely with senior scientific staff members of the centre and is responsible for the integration of smart grid technologies in the local distribution network operated by Saint John Energy.
Position summary:
- Perform the implementation and integration of smart grid algorithms in a local power distribution network.
- Work with complex forecasting algorithms of power demand of distributed energy resources and power distribution networks, as well as control algorithms to implement smart grid functions.
- Integrate and test the smart grid algorithms in a commercial energy management system integrated with Saint John Energy local distribution network.
- Achieve proper installation, communication and operation with the distributed energy resources.
Requirements/Skills:
- A bachelor degree in Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering. A master degree would be an asset.
- 4-5 years' experience in software development, database manipulation and system integration.
- Experience in instrumentation, distributed energy resources, and smart grid communication would be a valuable asset.
- General background on smart grid, electrical power system, and optimization.
