The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Laboratory Technologist with the Faculty of Kinesiology. This is a continuing full-time (36.25 hours per week) position with the PTSU employee group. The position is funded by the University Budget with a salary range of $43,138 - $56,069 per annum.
The Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of the faculty's research and teaching laboratories. They will also work closely with the Faculty coordinating teaching laboratories for undergraduate students, and research projects for graduate and honors students.
Position summary:
- Develop and maintain data acquisition systems pertaining to research and teaching labs.
- Perform routine laboratory inspections, and enforcing the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to all lab users, specifically in Biohazardous areas.
- Maintain equipment including calibration, validation, repairing, designing and construction of custom devices and arranging for repair.
- Integrate and develop hardware.
- Review and maintain standard operating procedures for use of research technology as requested.
- Develop and update policies and procedure manuals as it is related to this position.
- Assist with the development/adaptation of research lab manuals and associated documents for use of technology and ensure knowledge translation to users as requested.
- Assist researchers (Faculty and trainees) with the design/development of prototypes for research data collection and data acquisition.
- Provide technical support for research technology including assistance with configuration/setup, installation and troubleshooting.
- Learning new highly specialized equipment and software, for the purpose of training and providing support to Faculty and trainees.
- Administer budget for teaching laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Continuous maintenance and reporting of an online equipment inventory and timely replacement of consumables.
- Purchase equipment and communicate with manufacturers for support.
Requirements/Skills:
- Technologist or engineering degree in either electrical, mechanical or biomedical with appropriate electronics skills and background with 3-5 years of experience and/or a combination of education and experience.
- Programming (e.g. Matlab, Labview, C/C++, Python).
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong technical skills (both hardware and software) and understanding of kinesiological research equipment.
- Transportation of Bio-hazardous and WHIMIS training/certification waste would be considered an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of team research.
