The University of New Brunswick Saint John welcomes applications for the position of Genomics Laboratory Manager with the Department of Biological Sciences. This is a one-year term, full-time (36.25 hours per week) position with the APT employee group. The position is funded by the external monies with a salary range of $43,145 - $53,935 per annum.
This position will manage an Ecological Genomics Laboratory. The lab is part of a Canada Research Chair in Aquatic Molecular Ecology and Ecological Genomics. The lab is using next generation sequencing to understand how genes, genomes, populations and communities respond to different ecological contexts in nature. The position will be an important point of contact for clients that have contracted or may contract genomics services projects.
Position summary:
- Supervise a full-time Genomics Technician II.
- Communicate directly with clients about project execution.
- Maintain equipment including preventative maintenance. Order supplies in advance of need.
- Coordinate laboratory space and equipment use for all lab users including students, postdocs, and other users.
- Perform Environmental Genomics (eDNA) fieldwork, lab work, analysis, report writing.
- Environmental Genomics applications included Environmental DNA (eDNA), DNA barcoding, Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) genotyping, DNA Extraction, Restriction Associated .
- Digestion Sequencing (RAD-seq) library preparation, DNA primer design. PCR optimization, qPCR optimization, eDNA extraction.
- Use the laboratory equipment, which includes: Automated pipetting robot, fluorometer for DNA quantification, Pippen Prep size selection instrument, gel electrophoresis system, eDNA sampler, eDNA filtration system, quantitative PCR thermal cycler, DNA extraction homogenizer.
Requirements/Skills:
- MSc in Biology that included Ecological Genomics or Environmental DNA components to the thesis.
- Experience in Ecological Genomics research including DNA Extraction, PCR, creating next generation sequencing libraries eDNA field sampling, laboratory processing, data analysis, and report writing.
- 6 months of experience (post MSc.) in the fields of Environmental DNA, DNA extraction and quantification, genomics analysis, and report writing.
