The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Carpenter with Facilities Management. This is a continuing full-time (40 hours per week) position with the GLTA employee group. The position is funded by the University Budget with a salary of $25.88 per hour.
This position is for skilled maintenance and construction work in the carpentry trade at the Journeyperson level.
- Work as a carpenter alone or as a member of a crew employed on maintenance or construction. The nature of the work will vary depending on the task and will be in or out of doors under varying conditions. The work may involve work at heights or in tunnels.
- Prepare job estimates as to the quantity of labour and materials required to complete the job.
- Allocate and supervise the work of Trades Helpers and/or Labourers.
- Perform elementary duties of another trade in order to expedite completion of the assigned task.
- Responsible for the application of safety precautions as may be required to ensure minimum hazard to self and others. Must be thoroughly familiar with the National Building Code and the New Brunswick Health and Safety Act.
- Responsible for the care and preservation of assigned tools and equipment.
- Other related duties as required.
- Must have formal basic education as required by the NB Department of Post-Secondary Education Training to meet Journeyperson standards for the Carpentry Trade.
- Must possess a valid current Journeyman Certificate to practice the Carpentry Trade in the Province of New Brunswick.
- 3 years or more diversified experience at the Journeyperson level in the Carpentry Trade with concentration in maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings arid to work from sketches and diagrams.
- The ability to work with other tradespeople, and versatility in handling and use of tools of the trade.
- Must have the physical capacity to carry out the functions of the trade including the ability, on occasion, to life heavy objects, and work from ladders or in cramped quarters or confined spaces.
