The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Communications & Marketing Officer with the UNB Libraries. This is a continuing full-time (36.25 hours per week) position with the PTSU employee group. The position is funded by the University Budget with a salary range of $41,981 - $54,572 per annum.
Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, this position is designed to support institutional goals for research impact and student success, by developing and implementing communication strategies and plans to promote UNB Libraries' extensive resources, expert services, diverse programs and spaces. This position will create a unified and consistent voice, recognizing that many individuals connect with the libraries from a distance. Other responsibilities will include managing promotion of events and advising on prospective and current partnerships primarily within the university.
Position summary:
- Develop a comprehensive and overarching communications strategy for UNB Libraries, with measurable objectives that positions the Libraries positively among internal and external shareholders.
- Tell the UNB Libraries story in an engaging manner; promote use of library collections and services.
- Provide support to the Dean with reports, presentations, development activities, and briefing notes, etc.
- Liaise with the UNB Communication Office and UNB Marketing Team to ensure that Library communications complement and leverage university campaigns and initiatives.
- Advise on communication strategies for specific situations and sensitive issues.
- Work closely with the Dean and advise within the Libraries on print and/or digital library publications (e.g. annual reports, newsletters, brochures and other promotional materials)
- Develop a portfolio of work produced internally
- Coordinate communication of timely and relevant library news, issues, resources, services, programs, etc. using major social media platforms
- Capture and analyze engagement metrics from major social media platforms and adjust strategies in response.
- Keep current on best practices and emerging trends in library social media.
- In collaboration with internal and external colleagues, engage in the planning, promotion, scheduling and execution of library events such as symposia, conferences, books launches, lectures, workshops, and a campus-wide events.
- Utilize new technologies to help deliver content to a broader audience, as required.
Requirements/Skills:
- University degree, preferably in communications, public relations, journalism, or other related discipline or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience working in a communications field. Outstanding writing and verbal communication skills and project management.
- An understanding of social media platforms and design software.
- Demonstrated and proven record of developing successful communication strategies for an organization, including a portfolio of recent work. Ability to proofread and edit, layout, design software, printing and photography.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a positive work ethic.
- Experience in an academic or related setting is considered an asset.
