The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Climate Change Officer with the Facilities Management. This is a 1-year term full-time (36.25 hours per week) position with the PTSU employee group. The position is funded by the University Budget with a salary range of $33,737 - $42,171 per annum.
The Climate Change Officer works closely with the Sustainability Coordinator and Energy Management group and is responsible for coordinating efforts necessary to facilitate future development and implementation of a Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) for UNB.
Position summary:
- Responsible for designing, planning and executing facilitated events for stakeholder engagement and community outreach. This includes communicating directly with community stakeholders/campus stakeholders/partners, and coordinating their engagement and support with UNB Sustainability.
- Responsible for research approaches related to planning for, mitigating effects of, and adapting to climate change at UNB. This includes literature and peer reviews, researching science journals, databases, on-line resources, practitioner interviews, case studies, etc. on a wide range of climate change issues.
- Responsible for coordination and facilitation of meetings of the Climate Change Action Plan Committee that meet on a semi-regular basis to address issues related to climate change on campus and to consistently monitor and update the effectiveness of the CCAP as needed.
- Responsible for coordination, facilitation, and reporting on programs which aim to meet our established targets and strategies from the Climate Change Action Plan.
- Responsible for writing and editing program materials, fundraising proposals, grant applications, informational documents and press materials.
- Responsible for aiding in the creation of an implementation of various programs related to the overall mission of UNB Sustainability.
Requirements/Skills:
- Degree in Environmental Management and/or area of climate change.
- Demonstrated experience in environmental and natural sciences and climate research.
- Knowledge of the implications of climate change upon the private sector, universities and government agencies.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Ability to organize and analyze information, identify and evaluate solutions.
- Event management and coordination experience.
- Project management experience and/or a demonstrated ability to use independent judgment required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload.
- Strong background in qualitative methodology and research design.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise good judgment in responding to challenges and opportunities with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with individuals and colleagues at all levels.
