Department of Culture & Media Studies: Limited Term Assistant Teaching Professor

Academic Employment Opportunity #23-26

UNB Fredericton

Closing Date: Deadline for applications: March 8, 2024.

The Department of Culture and Media Studies in the Faculty of Arts at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, New Brunswick (Canada), invites applications for an eight-month limited term appointment at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor in Media and Culture. The start date of the position is September 1, 2024.

We seek a candidate with a PhD in Cultural Studies, Media Studies, or a related discipline (completed or near completion at the time of application). We are especially interested in candidates whose areas of specialization (research and teaching) include popular culture and one of the following: digital media, game studies, or social media studies. An excellent teaching record and an active research profile are also required. Practical experience in media arts and content creation would be an asset.

The successful candidate's research and teaching areas will contribute to the existing departmental areas of specialization in our Media Arts & Cultures and Comparative Cultural Studies programs. Teaching assignments will include undergraduate courses in popular culture and media studies at all levels, including: the departments entry-level course, Introduction to Culture, Arts, and Media; our second-year required class Popular Culture, and our third year capstone course, Culture Matters: Critical Approaches to Studying Culture.

In the Dept. of Culture & Media Studies, our interdisciplinary programs combine critical and creative work, encouraging students to become both scholars and authors of cultural studies and media. Bringing together perspectives from the social sciences, humanities, and fine arts, and grounded in the Canadian tradition of communication studies, our programs are built around the assumption that critical thinking about today's cultures benefits significantly from practical experience with the processes and technologies of cultural production.

Applicants are asked to electronically submit a letter of application and a C.V. (in either PDF or Word formats) to cams@unb.ca. In addition, candidates should arrange for three letters of reference to be sent electronically under separate cover to the attention of Dr. Sophie Lavoie, Chair, Dept. of Culture & Media Studies, UNB Fredericton, cams@unb.ca.

Please note: writing samples, teaching dossiers, and sample syllabi will only be requested of those selected for further consideration by the hiring committee.

Deadline for applications: March 8, 2024.

Position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Short-listed candidates will be required to provide satisfactory proof of credentials including appropriately certified translations of credentials into English, as applicable
